comments:  Jatoba, also called courbaril, varies in color from deep brown to pale reddish tan, with or without darker streaking. It grows widely in Central and South America, and in the Carribean. The plank from which this work was made is a uniform, rich red-brown, rather like mahogany. The pale yellow veins of holly contrast nicely with the body and the whole is strongly supported on a thick, solid slab of ebony. It delivers a distinct Art Deco feel. It is a large vase. The well is 3" in diameter and 12" deep, ample for large floral displays. As with all of my vases, the well is sleeved in copper and is water tight. The vase can be used almost as if it were glass or ceramic. The polyurethane finish protects it completely from splashes and spills, but it should not be immersed in water.
