principal wood: acacia

comments: The primary wood in these candleholders came from the exotic locale of my backyard, near San Diego, CA. In the right location (almost anywhere!) acacias thrive around here and this one was threatening to take over. I now consider it to have fulfilled its destiny. The ebony used in the base and rim is from the tropics. The holly wood used for the rim accent is a US domestic. I find the complete blackness of ebony, especially with a deep, clear gloss finish, to be almost irresistible and I use it frequently in my work. These unique candleholders are base-weighted to provide exceptional stability. They are sculpted by hand using a freeform technique and are one-of-a-kind.
