comments: Another first: this is the first piece that I have created using this wood, an import from Mexico. Rich is the first descriptive word that comes to mind for the finished wood. Unpredictable is the second. The grain doesn't seem to be able to make up it's mind; sections of relative evenness are quickly replaced by irregular wandering graininess. Dark streaks turn to light iridescent trails as the piece is rotated and twisted under a good light. This is one I'll certainly use again. The copper well is one inch in diameter and 4.25 inches deep. I base-weighted the work although probably not necessary; the piece has a comfortingly high density.
