comments:  The jarrah tree grows on the southwest coast of Australia, one of the many eucalyptus species native there and is commonly used for lumber.  It forms large burls and pieces thereof turn up in the USA in the fine hardwood trade, often used for woodturning.  These candleholders are my first effort using this beautiful wood.  They are part of my ‘nugget’ series of small candleholders.  This series emphasizes the beautiful colors and textures of the woods themselves through use of  elementary shapes that highlight the wood, not the design.  This set started with a square cross section, with taper toward the top, but has been heavily rounded to give an appealing chubby appearance.  This burl is rich red-brown in color and its growth pattern provides an engaging complex of linear and round features.  Candle sockets are lined in copper.
